The most common type of social engineering attack is a 'phishing attack' (fishing attack) which is where someone attempts to gain your personal information like social security number, credit card information, usernames, or passwords and this will most likely come in the form of an email. This email will use shortened or misleading links that will redirect you to a suspicious websites that invite scammers. Another way you could determine the email is a scam is if the email incorporates threats, fear or a sense of urgency in an attempt to manipulate you into responding quickly and divulging personal information.
